This year, one of the major happenings on the sustainability radar is the 3rd Nobel Laureate Symposium on Global Sustainability in Stockholm, Sweden. The Symposium started today (16th May), and will run through the whole week with a series of plenary presentations, panel discussions and working groups sessions.
The symposium events and discussions are divided into three themes:
1.The human dominated planet: This theme focuses on the great acceleration of the human enterprise and on recent attempts to identify the safe operating space for humanity to continue to develop within a stable planet Earth.
2.Reconnecting to the Biosphere: This theme focuses on the great acceleration of the human enterprise and on recent attempts to identify the safe operating space for humanity to continue to develop within a stable planet Earth.
3. Tipping towards sustainability: This theme will explore the links between crisis, opportunity, and innovation for navigating shifts and large-scale transformations towards global sustainability.
What is really cool is that most of the events are being broadcast through live webcasts. Personally I'm looking forward to the "Nobel Court Case: Planet Earth vs. Humanity" on 17th May at 10:20 local time. On Thursday 19 May there will be a half-day seminar on solutions, action and leadership for Global Sustainability. Here you have the opportunity to send in your questions to the panel discussions via Twitter on www.twitter.com/PlanetaryOpps. Mark your tweets with #PlanetaryOpps.
